QMS #BalanceForBetter with Business Chicks on IWD

25 March 2019

As a premier partner of Business Chicks, QMS were proud to sponsor 2019 International Women’s Day (IWD) events in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney featuring an array of influential guest speakers including Anne Summers, Susan Alberti AC, Amna Karra-Hasan, Sam Bloom, JoAnna Ferrari and Marita Cheng.

With the 2019 IWD theme #BalanceForBetter permeating throughout the room, the six speakers took to their respective stages to share their unique stories and cover a multitude of topics that inspired guests to be ‘more powerful together’ in the pursuit of creating a more gender-balanced world.

Powerhouse feminist, writer and political advisor Anne Summers shared stories of defiance in her endeavour to break societal stereotypes of a woman’s role saying “I was born into a world that expected very little of women like me. Being a woman is what you make of it. I trod heavily on the earth and I encourage all of you to do the same.”

Young Australian of the Year and robotics pioneer Marita Cheng touched on the importance of accepting failure on the road to success saying “People who are successful have to fail sometimes. Learn from your failures and do better next time.” Adding an inspiring notion around excersing your imagination in acheiving that success,

It doesn’t matter how old you are or how smart you are. All that matters is your imagination and how your creativity can conquer reality.

Bringing the room to tears with her inspirational story of endurance after a life-changing accident, Sam Bloom summoned guests to chase their dreams in the face of life’s uncertainty saying “You are never too old or too damaged to do the things that matter most. Life is a precious and fragile thing— don’t put your dreams on hold, make them happen today, not tomorrow.”

QMS CMO Sara Lappage reflected on International Women’s Day saying “IWD is an important time to reflect on all that has been and continues to be achieved, and to celebrate some truly inspirational women.”

As a business, we are deeply focused on being ‘more powerful together’; supporting, motivating and empowering not only women in media but women in general to accomplish all they set out to achieve.
